Productivity Potpourri and the FlyLady

How productive are you?  Hard as I try, I never seem to completely master productivity.  From carrying my leather-bound Franklin Planner in the 90s to electronic to-do list on my Palm in 2006 to most recently my Getting Things Done tickler files and next actions, believe me, I’ve tried hard!!

Currently I’m at a crossroads, and I’m using a mashed up selection of methods and tools for productivity.  I try to keep a (relatively) empty inbox.  I have most recently tried Toodledo for capturing my to-do list electronically and accessing it on my iPod Touch. The verdict is still out on whether I will stick with it.  I’m not in love, yet.  For work I use Outlook to manage my calendar and tasks.  For home and church I’m 100% invested in Google Calendar.

And for good measure, on the home front I am heavily influenced by my dear friend, the FlyLady!  Have you met her?  I first encountered the FlyLady in 2002 when I was a stay-at-home Mom.  By taking “baby steps” I was soon on my way to a happier, cleaner home.  She takes a systematic approach to house cleaning and coaches you through each part of the day via e-mail if you choose to subscribe.  Alternatively you can like her Facebook Page or follow her on Twitter for daily missions and motivation.  Check out her web site at FlyLady.net where she offers all kinds of links to videos, books, weekly podcasts and more.  Interestingly, her web site looks about the same as it did when I found her in 2002, but don’t let the site design (or lack thereof) turn you off.  Even though it is in need of an update, what really matters are the resources you find there!!  I’ve gone through periods in my life where I have “fallen off the wagon”, but I always return to the core FlyLady principles to keep my house in order and a happy place.  Some things I’ve found particularly helpful are …

The web site has a way of sucking you in, and before you know it you’re immersed and motivated to declutter your house and your life.  Check out my friend the FlyLady if you are ready to fly!
