December 28 – The Garage and a Surprise

I was a bit disappointed today because I was very much looking forward to sharing beautiful wedding photos in today’s collage. But the weather wasn’t fit for driving this morning, so after reaching Mankato we decided it was best to turn back and not make our planned trek to Wisconsin for our friend’s wedding. We trust they are now a happily married couple and look forward to seeing photos they share soon.

Instead of Wisconsin, tonight we ventured out to nearby Springfield, MN to eat at one of our local favorite restaurants, The Garage.  You’ll see from the photos that they carry the garage theme through in all of their decorations.

After dinner, we snapped a few photos of the lights in town and got a big surprise.  You have to scroll to the bottom of the collage to see it!

Christmas Gift Craft – Wood Letter Blocks

Now that the gifts are all opened, I get to reveal a fun craft project I made for Christmas this year – wood letter blocks that spelled words.  I downloaded the letter images from a Flickr collection, converted them to black and white, and printed them just the right size. My crafty mother-in-law provided the wood blocks, cut from 2x4s. Luke helped me spray paint them and then the modge podging began!

And the result was sets of special words for each of the recipients.

Finally it was time for the Christmas Eve Children’s Service, “The Wonder of It All”! They did such a great job proclaiming the good news of Jesus’ birth!

Luke and Ben played “Joy to the World” during the offering. Mom was so proud!!

We enjoyed good food and fellowship between services and went back for candlelight service at 10 p.m. Then we made some late night photos and headed off to bed, ready to welcome our Savior on Christmas morning.

December 23 – Caroling to Shut-Ins

One of my favorite traditions at St. John’s is Christmas caroling to our shut-in members.  This year we had a group of 10 fabulous singers and we sang to 10 members and many more friends in the nursing homes and assisted living facilities we visited.

December 22 – Out and About

Christmas weekend arrived and I needed to SHOP!! Mainly I was looking for groceries, but perhaps a few last minute gifts made it into my cart as well. I did take the camera along and snag a few shots of the beautiful sunrise and our church and house.

Gingerbread House in a Jar

I saw the idea for this gift online about a year ago and have been dreaming of making it ever since! With the help of my boys, we put together 9 of the awesome Gingerbread House in a Jar kits. Fun to make and fun to gift!

Pinterest came through with me just in time with some cool instructions for graham cracker gingerbread house designs. I printed this and attached to the jar to help get the creative juices going.

Surprise!

Over a long weekend I made a trip to my home town to surprise my Mom and get a Christmas hug. My sister, Jan, was in on the surprise and the three of us – plus Mom’s neighbor, Ralph, and my sweet Aunt Madeline – enjoyed every minute we had together.  I hope you enjoy the collages of the fun.

Back in the Collage Business!

I’m back! It’s been a busy week leading up to a wonderful holiday break, and I’ve fallen off the collage bandwagon a bit. But I’m back now and plan to play catch up a bit this weekend for the days I missed. Tonight I want to share photos from the wonderful concert we attended at MVL (Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School) this evening.  Luke sang in the Freshmen Choir, and he was also part of the Art Factory (after school Art Club) effort to produce the mosaic version of the concert theme art.  Also, many of Stanley’s Senior friends had important roles in the concert. It made me so proud of them all and of the outstanding group of friends he is blessed with!
